Dear Friends,
We can’t believe it’s been a month since we lost the Barn. It feels more like a reeeally long week. There are some questions that we can answer for you now and some we can’t… here goes.
First, THANK YOU!! For all the kind thoughts, prayers, hotdishes, hugs, cards, money, volunteerism, and general awesomeness.
When will cleanup start? Sorry to say, it will be weeks or even months. Until all insurance companies sign off, the scene is to remain “unspoiled”. Please stay back, and keep your kids off the rubble as well. There is a 4,000 square foot basement filled with water and debris. If you see anyone messing around there, please let one of us know. Or call 911. Believe me, we are anxious to clean up what’s left of River Street Rentals, Cook Dollar Barn, Gilley’s Naturals, and the homes of 8 friends. We know it looks and smells awful. We know. As soon as it can be cleaned up, it will be.
Will Lois rebuild Cook Dollar Barn? We don’t know. It depends on so many things; one of which is the cost to demo what is left of the physical building. Again, numerous insurance companies and government agencies have a say in how that is done. These and a billion other factors make it impossible to say at this time. Give us a year.
Why don’t you just buy __________ building? Um, no money, no inventory, no fixtures and we would have to finish cleaning up this business first. Did you know that it is almost as much work (and as expensive) to have a business yanked out from under you as it is to start a business? Neither did we. And all without any of the fun parts–the customers and the inventory.
Will Laura always be Employee of the Year, no matter what? Stupid question. Of course I will. Pffffft.
Will Lois ever just accept this fact and embrace it? Probably not, but stranger things have happened.
